What this policy covers
This policy explains how personal information is handled when you use the Warrantio app for iOS or Android, or visit this website. In this policy, “Warrantio”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the Warrantio app and website.
It does not cover the App Store, Google Play, or any other service we do not operate. Those services have their own privacy policies.
Warrantio keeps a home’s appliance records. Records are tied to your account and synchronized through our servers, so the same information is available on each device you sign in with.
Information you provide
You create an account before you can use Warrantio. We collect:
- Account details. Your email address, the name you choose to display, and your password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form. We also store your app preferences.
- Home records. The details you enter for each appliance: its name and category, brand, model, serial number if you add one, purchase date and retailer, warranty provider, coverage and expiry dates, service schedule, and service history and notes.
- Support messages. What you send us when you ask for help, including any attachment you choose to include.
You decide what to enter, and optional fields can stay blank. Please do not add another person’s information without their permission, and do not use the notes fields for sensitive details such as health, financial, or government identifiers. Warrantio does not need them.
Information collected automatically
When the app synchronizes with our servers, we also process:
- Service data. Your account identifier, the records being synchronized, and the time of each change.
- Device and app details. App version, operating system and version, device model, language, and time zone.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports and error logs, which may include the state of the app when something failed.
- Network data. Your IP address and basic request information in our server logs, used for security and troubleshooting.
- Notification token. A device token from Apple or Google if you turn on reminders.
The current release does not request access to your camera, photo library, microphone, contacts, or precise location. If a future release needs a new permission, the request will appear in the app and this policy will be updated before that feature is used.
How we use your information
- Provide the service. Store your records, synchronize them across your devices, and show schedules, warranties, and history.
- Send reminders. Schedule and deliver the notifications you enable.
- Keep it secure. Authenticate you, protect accounts, detect abuse, and debug failures.
- Support you. Answer questions and resolve problems you report.
- Improve the app. Understand which features fail or confuse people, using diagnostics and aggregated usage.
- Meet the law. Comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
We do not use your appliance records for advertising, and we do not sell personal information.
Legal bases for processing
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another place with similar rules, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract. To provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests. To secure the service, prevent abuse, and improve it, balanced against your rights.
- Consent. For optional things such as push notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation. Where a law requires us to keep or disclose information.
Where we rely on consent, refusing or withdrawing it does not affect the rest of the service.
Storage and international transfers
Your records are stored on servers operated for Warrantio. Those servers, and the providers that support them, may be in a country other than the one where you live.
Where information moves out of your country, we use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the relevant authority, and require recipients to protect it to a comparable standard.
If you have a question about the safeguards that apply to a transfer, ask us using the contact details below.
How long we keep information
- Account and records: while your account is open, and until a deletion request is completed.
- Deleted accounts: removed from the live service promptly, and from rotating backups within 90 days, unless a longer period is required by law.
- Server logs: kept for 30 to 90 days for security and troubleshooting.
- Support correspondence: kept for up to 24 months so we can follow up on the same problem.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous so it can no longer be linked to you.
How we protect information
Passwords are stored as salted hashes. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it, and we review those permissions.
No service is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us so we can help you secure it. Keep your password private, and use one you do not reuse elsewhere.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- See the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your account and the records in it.
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on it.
- Complain to your local data protection authority.
To exercise a right, use the contact details below. We may ask you to verify that you control the account before we act. We respond within 30 days or the period the law allows, and we will explain if we need more time.
You can also turn notifications off at any time without closing your account.
Closing your account
Ask us to close your account and delete your records at any time. Once the request is confirmed, the account is deactivated and the records are removed from the live service. Copies may remain in backups for up to 90 days.
We may keep limited information after closure where the law requires it, for example records needed for tax, fraud prevention, or an ongoing dispute. We may also keep information in a form that no longer identifies you.
Reminders and notifications
Reminders are optional. If you enable them, we store a notification token from Apple or Google and the schedule needed to send the message. You can disable notifications in the app or in your device settings; disabling them does not delete your records.
We also send service messages that are not marketing, such as security notices or material changes to these documents. You cannot opt out of those while you hold an account.
This website
The marketing site is static. It does not require an account, and it does not set advertising cookies. It stores one preference in your browser’s local storage, under the key warrantio-theme, so the theme you choose survives a reload.
Our hosting provider processes standard request logs, including your IP address, to serve the site and protect it. Links to the App Store and Google Play open services with their own policies.
If we add analytics or other tracking later, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent first.
Children
Warrantio is intended for adults managing their own home. It is not directed to children, and you must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes or the law requires it. The date at the top always shows the current version.
If a change materially affects what we collect or how we use it, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and give you a chance to close your account if you disagree.
Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints about this policy, or about how Warrantio handles your information, should go to the contact below. We do not charge you for exercising a privacy right.
Questions or requests about this policy can be sent through the support details published on the Warrantio listing in the App Store or Google Play. We aim to reply within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the data protection authority where you live. The European Data Protection Board lists the authorities in the EEA.
